Our Teams are dedicated to helping anyone suffering from Head, Neck and Oral Cancer

FUC-team

Maxillofacial Surgery

Mr. Michael Fardy, Mr. Cellan Thomas and Mr.Andrew Cronin are Consultants in Maxillofacial Surgery and part of the Head & Neck MDT at University Hospital Wales. Their role within the team is the diagnosis, treatment and post surgical care of those patients with oro-facial tumours.

ENT Surgery

Mr.Stuart Quine, Mr.Alun Tomkinson and Mr.David Owens are Consultants in Ear Nose and Throat surgery and part of the Head & Neck MDT at University Hospital Wales. Their role within the team is the diagnosis, treatment and post surgical care of those patients with head and neck tumours.

Restorative Dentistry

Mr. Liam Addy is a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry and part of the Head and Neck cancer Multi Disciplinary Team (MDT). His role in conjunction with Penny Harrison (Head and Neck Dental Therapist) is to assess dental fitness prior to cancer treatment. Following treatment Liam, working in close liaison with Mr. Michael Fardy and Mr. Cellan Thomas, provides the dental rehabilitation required for many of these patients. Penny has an important role in providing dental care to those patients who had radiotherapy as part of their cancer therapy.

Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS)

Annette Beasley and Vicki Stew are the CNSs for the Head & Neck team. Their role within the team is to provide specialist nursing care and support for all patients diagnosed with Head & Neck Cancer. This includes acting as Key Workers, (patient’s advocate), facilitating the coordination of all health professionals involved in the treatment pathway to ensure the patient experience is as smooth as possible.

Dietitians

Liz Pascoe and Alison James are the Head & Neck Specialist Dietitians in the MDT at University Hospital Wales. Their role within the team is to support patients through their cancer pathway and rehabilitation providing advice on tube feeding, if required, texture modified diets, oral nutritional supplementation, food fortification, energy and protein management and weight maintenance.

Speech & Language Therapists

Sarah Clements, Claire Fisher and Carly Ramsden are the Head & Neck Speech & Language Therapists in the MDT at University Hospital Wales. Their role within the team is to support patients through their cancer pathway and rehabilitation providing advice on swallowing, speech, voice restoration and poor mouth opening. They will suggest strategies, techniques and changes that can be made to manage these difficulties.

Consultant Ear Nose and Throat Surgeons – Mr Sandeep Berry, Mr David Smith and Mr Rob Evans along with Mr Ali Jaffrey (Associate Specialist) are core members of the Head & Neck MDT at Royal Glamorgan Hospital. Their role within the team is the diagnosis, treatment and post surgical care of patients with Head and Neck tumours.

Maxillofacial Surgery

Mr Cellan Thomas and Mr Daniel Ashworth are Consultants in Maxillofacial Surgery are core members of the Head & Neck MDT at Royal Glamorgan Hospital. Their role within the team is the diagnosis, treatment and post surgical care of patients with Oro-facial tumours.

Oncology

Dr Naomi Cole, Consultant Oncologist from Velindre Cancer Centre is a core member of the MDT. She is a specialist in cancer treatments such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Her role involves advising on non surgical treatment options and post surgery adjuvant therapies.

Radiology

Dr Rhian Rhys, Dr Richard Winter, Dr Jean Marc Soukias and Dr Christopher Goodwin are all Consultant Radiologists and core members of the MDT. Their role involves analysing scans – the visual imaging of a cancer. This is critical information for the team to be able to identify the most appropriate cancer treatment/s and surgery plan for each individual patient. They are involved in the diagnosis, staging and the ongoing management of patients.

Pathology

Dr Philip Brumwell, Consultant Pathologist is a core member of the MDT. His role involves establishing a diagnosis by identifying from specimens, the type of cancer involved. He is able to provide information on the results of biopsies and specimens after surgery and report if cancer has been successfully removed – this can influence the need for adjuvant therapy.

Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS)
Jane Wall and Emma Jones, Head & Neck Oncology CNS’s are core members of the MDT. Their role within the team is to provide specialist nursing care, information and support for all patients with Head & Neck Cancer from diagnosis and treatment planning through into survivorship or palliation. This includes acting as Key Worker (patient’s advocate) and facilitating the coordination of care throughout the cancer experience.
Melanie Mills, Head & Neck Oncology CNS from Velindre Cancer Centre is a core member of the MDT. Her role involves providing specialist information and support for patients undergoing non surgical treatment.
