We have received this from a patient :
I was very fortunate to be introduced to Faceup Cymru in 2026, whilst being treated for malignant skin cancer in my neck.
I had already suffered the trauma of two surgical interventions, one of which was complex and invasive. As a follow up measure I took part in a six week radiotherapy course at Velindre Cancer centre.
It was during this radiotherapy course that I first met Mike Fardy from Faceup Cymru.
Mike was very attentive and empathetic and as part of his visit, it was suggested that I try a VR headset he had brought along. It was a piece of kit that I was unfamiliar with, but I nonetheless decided to embrace the opportunity Mike provided.
I have to say that I was very quickly taken in by the uniqueness and versatility of the headset and its videos and my use of the headset subsequently became part of my daily recovery routineI had adopted. The headset is fairly easy to use and includes a number of short videos designed to very quickly and powerfully immerse oneself in a calming and reassuring world, set apart from the difficulties and anxieties associated with aggressive cancer treatment.
At the core of the videos is the useful tool of mindfulness, which is used by a number of health practitioners worldwide to reduce the impact ( both mentally and physically ) of challenging cancer treatments.
The headset provides the opportunity to view and engage withthe various videos in the comfort of the home and without too much technical input. Most of the videos are centred around the natural world, typically coastal and mountainous aspects and include a calming and evocative commentary and thematic background music.
Use of the headset is more favourable in my view when compared to reading a book or viewing an on-line video. After using the headset, I always feel at ease and in a much better frame of mind . I continue to use the headset post my treatment
